Amiibo Painting Tips

These are a few tips I follow religiously when painting Amiibos. I know it can be a bit overwhelming at first but if you take your time and apply these techniques, it can help improve your work.

  • PRIME:
    •  Priming helps the paint stick on easier on the surface. It also makes the paint last longer. I always use a white primer because the colors are more vibrant.
  • THIN paint:
    •  Thinning the paint, by adding water,  will help eliminated bumps and streak marks. The first coat with thin paint will look transparent. So adding layers is necessary to have opaque finish. Wait a couple minutes between layers.
  • MAKE ENOUGH:
    • When mixing your own colors, try to make a good amount of color in case you run out. It is a little difficult sometimes to match the color, so if you have extra you can use it for another project. You can store it in small plastic containers, that are AIR TIGHT. I usually get mine at the 99 cents store and they work perfectly fine.
  • FINISH/SEALANT
    •  After your finished with the Amiibo, adding a finish is always the best choice. If you do not add a sealant/finish your acrylic paint will wear off. I use Gloss Varnish or a Matte Varnish. I usually prefer the Matte Varnish. There are also two types: spray or liquid. Personally, I think liquid varnishes are better because you are able to get all the nooks and cranny's of the figure. All the finishes/varnishes come with instructions, please read them and follow them because they require different thing you have to use.
  • TAKE YOUR TIME AND BE PATIENT
    • Painting requires a lot of time and patience. If you take your time and not rush through it will come out cleaner and neater. Be aware that it is a learning process and the first one may have a chance to have imperfections, but as you progress and continue on you will become better.
