I know I've said "we" but that is because I'm not the only one. One of our artist, Cynthia Rodriguez, makes them too. She's very creative. This ninja turtle, Michelangelo, is one out of the few things she has made. She's very talented, she's even made a Lugia with bendable fingers.
If you would ask me how I learned, I would tell you in word: the Internet. In the beginning I never had the urge to learn, but once I started it was like an addiction. Yes, it was hard at first, holding the hook in your hand and being able to control the tightness and looseness of the yarn. My stubbornness is what pushed me to keep going. Eventually I would read books and use the patterns to make things. Such as scarfs and beanies. I started out small, so I started selling beanies and scarfs at my high school. Later, I became a little bored of making them because they were overly repetitive. So I started how to make plushies.
I can't exactly remember what was the first thing I made, but my earliest memory is making a turtle. It has a green shell with chunky yarn and a yellow head and feet. From what I can remember now, it wasn't the best thing I've made, but I know at the time I was very proud of it. I ended up giving it to my friend in math class because I knew it was his favorite animal. I wonder if he still has it.
I eventually got addicted. I started reading patterns online, trying to learn everything little thing. I made turtles, pigs, dogs, cats. I made so many I didn't even know what to do with them. So around Christmas time, I gave them all away to my friends and even my favorite teacher. It's funny that I think about it now, because everything I've made, I end up giving it away. I even tried making myself a binding of Isaac Plushie (first picture) because I love that game so much, but I ended up giving it to my boyfriend. I don't know what it is, but I gain a great satisfaction in making something and giving it to someone who would really love it.
As I progressed with my skills, I became comfortable and started making my own patterns. The first thing I made from scratch, without a pattern was a PAC-man plushie. Predictably, I ended up giving it away and I do not know wear it is. All the pictures I have posted, have been my own creations (except Cynthia's) and I'm proud to say that I have attained a lot of experience. I can't wait to post more that I've done and the work that I know I will continue on doing.
